Napoleon at Leipzig

Napoleon is seen here reviewing the situation from Murat's headquarters. He visited the Marshal's position on the Galgenberg Heights at 9.30am on 16th October 1813. Murat is to the right of the Emperor indicating the Allied positions to the south. To the left of Napoleon (holding the map) is Marshal Oudinot who commanded two Divisions of the Young Guard. At the rear of the Emperor's entourage is a troop from the elite company 19th Line Chasseurs. Leipzig would prove to be a defeat for Napoleons, and with it the final end of French domination in Germany.
