The Last Thing

Editorial

by Dave Watkins

Calm down, yes its a new picture of me, somewhat jaded and older - obviously taken after a heavy night down the pub and after another round of intercontinental travel!

The office has been somewhat unattended over the last couple of months as I have been doing a bit of travelling in order to expand First Empire, so apologies to all who have found it somewhat difficult to contact me, off again in the first two weeks of March and then it should settle down until the summer!

One of the advantages of this, apart from ogling the stewardesses, has been that I have got to do some reading at last! An interesting little volume that has come my way, has some nice little insights into the Peninsular War - and also appears to have been a possible source of ideas for the Sharpe series. Remember the episode with the South Essex defending / taking and retaking a bridge?

Something very similar to this can be found here - even an intelligence officer who seemed very familiar!

So Spellmount’s facsimile of “Recollections of an old 52nd man - Captain John Dobbs” priced at £19.95 has the editorial recommendation for this issue. How else will you find out that the only reason the light division appeared to capture French Artillery pieces, with all the danger that entailed, was because French Artillery officers tended to hang hams and bottles of wine off the gun carriages! (Perhaps a potential +1 for wargamers here!)

See you in April and keep the articles coming!
