Scale: 20mm Subject: French Guard Infantry & Cavalry Not long ago I had the pleasure of reviewing some superb 20mm figures made by 'IT Figures'. I thought that these figures were some of the finest I had see in this scale, that was until now. The figures I was sent by Newline design are even better. We should all be pleased that such a wealth of talent and skill exists, offering us the gamers such superb products. Both Newline and IT figures are compatible in height, both being approximately 20mm from sole of foot to top of head. However, Newline figures are not as chunky as IT's and are mounded on a much thinner base which gives the impression that Newline's figures are smaller than IT's. Newline design sent to me a broad selection of figures from their extensive range, of which I have chosen to review some of the French Imperial Guard. All the figures were cleanly moulded and needed no preparation before painting. Chasseurs a Cherval Command Standard Bearer - The horse and rider are separate and both are well proportioned and animated. Both the rider and horse have a wealth of detail, all of which is deeply moulded thus making painting a whole lot easier. The horse is moulded with the horse furniture and the rider fits perfectly onto the horse in just the right position. This is something many manufacturers have not been able to master. Grenadier marching - Again this figure has the same wealth of detail etc., as the Chasseurs a Cherval Command Standard Bearer. Although the animation is not quite as good, being slightly ridged in posture. Mind you all the buttons, braiding, belts, buckles and pockets etc., have all been lovingly sculpted on the figure. The figures are sold in packs of 8 Infantry or 3 Cavalry, at £ 2.00 per pack. Guns and Gun crews are sold separatly at £ 1.25 per pack. (1997 prices). At present Newline are unable to accept credit card payment. As I said earlier the range is pretty extensive, covering the British, French, Austrian, Prussian, Russian, Brunswick and Nassau troops. The even better news is that Newline are offering a staggering 20% discount (excluding barging packs) to all NA members. These are great figures with a great discount, so why not send off for their catalogue and enjoy.
