The Last Thing...

Editorial

by Dave Watkins

Two years, two long years ago I woke up one morning and said, I'm going to do a Napoleonic magazine. Two months later issue 1 hit the world with a resounding `phut'. I did wonder whether or not I should have been locked in a rubber walled room for a few years following that `bright idea'.

However, First Empire has gone from strength to strength to the extent that if you are reading this you are a member of a still growing World Wide `First Empire community'. I'm pleased to report that I have made many new friends, some of whom I have never met face to face, but who maintain constant contact with `the office' via phone, fax and 3.5" disc.

Of course, some people have become alienated mainly by adverse reviews. You just would not believe some of the mud thrown back in my direction. (Yes, I know I'm just a hero.....)

This prompts me to state here the policy of the magazine with regard to Reader's Reviews.

Readers are invited to submit for publication review material of any relevant product that they have purchased.

Regardless of the content this will generally be published unedited. (Subject to the usual restrictions of not being libelous or intentional rudeness)

The subject of the review can reply via the Dispatches column of the subsequent issue of the magazine.

Advance notice of reviews is not given, owing mainly to time constraints, regardless of whether they are good or bad.

The subjects of Reader's Reviews are reminded that their products are being assessed by their customers. You should be pleased, obviously, if you get a good review. If the opposite applies, customer satisfaction is something to be strived for, keep in mind that the reviewer concerned opens himself up to international ridicule if he gives an intentionally undeserved bad review. Enough said?

Coming up in the next issue, we have a look at Neapolitan troops of the era via Colin Allen. This would have been in this issue but Colin's computer blew up (literally), the day before he was due to send the article in! Also running late is Peter Lawson's Prime Your Pan. The Post Office, who are currently waging a personal campaign against me (honest I'm not paranoid!), have managed to lose the relevant bits. So the first part in a new series will begin next issue with Russian Jager skirmish tactics.

On the subject of future articles, I am looking for more contributors, particularly from mainland Europe. Don't worry about your English, we will correct any obvious mistakes. Also although this issue contains a bumper selection of Dispatches, can we expand this section to include useful snippets of information? You know the sort of thing, worth knowing but not enough of it to make an article.

And Finally...

See page 20 for details of the fantastic, amazing, beautifully designed (I did the artwork!) First Empire binders. Each binder will take 12 issues (now there's a coincidence!) and is available at an exceptionally low rate. Keep them mags safe, bind `em.
