The Last Thing...

Editorial

by Dave Watkins

It is Thursday morning, as I write, the morning after Sharpe's Rifles hit the screen in the U.K. It was bloody brilliant. The only thing wrong is that this beleaguered epic series was cut down to two to episodes! But a total of four hours of pure Napoleonic drama and action will keep my interest alive for at least the next millennia. (Apologies to the wife and children; wifey was exiled to a neighbours house, children locked in a cupboard!)

The `Rifles' episode served as an excellent opener, perfectly introducing the characters and left me wishing that today was next Wednesday, so that I could continue my pathetic dribbling over the action in the `Eagles' episode. Congratulations to Central TV on a superbly atmospheric production. (If you thought it was `over the top' in places, remember, so were the books, and that's what entertainment is all about!) And a big thank you to the guy in the control room who left the caption on screen for an inordinate amount of time before and after each and every break for adverts. Makes editing on the VCR so much easier!

Please remember that it was `faction', I've seen more than one group break up, because of some trivial argument over who can do what because of, for example, a scene in `War & Peace' which implanted some idea of `extraordinary capability' in the minds of the protagonists.

Enough on the subject, by the time you read this, the second episode will have passed us by several days ago.

Bicorne Miniatures

A big apology is due to Bicorne Miniatures, in the last issue their advert stated that their prices had gone. Fine except that I printed the old prices instead of the new! Not a good idea, the wrath of the mighty `Ellen' descended upon me, from an exceptional height. Doctors say that I will walk properly again in the near future. However, my John Wayne impersonation is coming along nicely, and their correct advert can be found on page 28.

Big 25mm Theft

Recently a collection of 10,000 painted and based 25mm Napoleonic figures were stolen from Howard Greenwood of Lowton, Leigh, near Manchester. The thieves who perpetrated this burglary, were obviously `shopping to order', so beware when purchasing `second hand' figures. Any one who has information on this matter can pass it onto me in confidence.

Napier Competition Continues

With regard to last issues Napier competition, two winners have emerged so far, still one set up for grabs so keep the entries coming. Full answers and winners next issue.

Finally, I shall be making one of my rare appearances during daylight hours at the Halesowen show on 22nd May, if you are going I'll see you there!
