Q3. Volontaires Etrangers

from Ian Sumner

The Volontaires Etrangers and the Volontaires Etrangers de Clermont prince were two different regiments. The former had white uniforms with green facings according to the Elat Militaire of 1759. In 1760, they were amalgamated with the Volontaires d'Austrasie, who had the blue faced Ted uniform. The colour quoted by Charles Vasey is attributed to the Volontaires d'Austrasie by Pengel and Hurt in their FRANCE - TROUPES LEGERES, though of course does not exclude the possibility that they took it over from the other regiment. Clermont Prince wore a similar blue and red uniform. They survived the war to become part of the Chasseurs de Bretagne by the Revolution.
