Fall Weiss: Poland 1939

Booklet

Reviewed by Bill Rutherford

Published by Tac Publications, and distributed by Irregular Miniatures, this 45 page booklet is a collection of scenarios and data for gaming battles from the 1939 invasion of Poland. Though designed for Chris Pringle's TAC: WW II rules, FALL WEISS's scenarios can easily be used with any rule set where a model equals a platoon. The 10 maps are hand-drawn but are neat and serviceable.

There are 9 historical and 2 hypothetical scenarios, and 6 of the historical scenarios are grouped into a mini-campaign detailing the exploits of the Polish 10th Mechanized Cavalry Brigade. A typical scenario provides start and stop times, weather conditions, a brief description of what's happening, missions and orders of battle for both sides, scenario play notes, special rules, victory conditions, and an epilogue, all well-written. Supplementing the scenarios are TAC: WWII statistics for all of the equipment required in any of the scenarios and reasonably complete orders of battle for both sides' forces taking part in the scenarios. Finally, a simple scenario generator, including random situation and random forces tables, provides a quick way to play reasonably involved scenarios. I've tried this out; it works! FALL WEISS is well worth its cover price and should be available at your FLGS for $8 - $10. If not, you can get it for £ 5.00 plus shipping from the distributor, Irregular Miniatures, at 3 Apollo Street, Heslington Road, York, UK YO1 5AP. They do take credit cards…
