The Simulation

The game begins with the Union 1200 turn and ends with the Confederate 1800 turn. The initial dispositions are shown on the map. Reinforcements arrive as follows:

Union

    1200: Harrison: A
    1430: Blunt HQ, Wickersham, Cloud, and 1 battery: E
    1500: Weerand 1 battery: E
    1530: Solomon and 1 battery: E

Confederate

    1330: Frost HQ, Shaver, and 1 battery: B
    1330: Parsons: C

Special Rules

  1. Monroe's cavalry may not move until attacked or until Blunt's Division arrives.
  2. All Confederate artillery fire with a -1 modifier to the die roll to simulate the light 6 pounders.
  3. The 1:150 scale is used. Each infantry or cavalry base represents 150 men. Each artillery base represents 6 guns.
  4. The Illinois River (creek) has high banks and was full from recent rains. It may be crossed only at fords.

Victory Conditions

  1. Casualty points are accumulated as listed in the Casualty Points Chart.
  2. In addition points are awarded to each side for the control of the following terrain objectives: Borden Orchard, Morton blacksmith shop, and Crawford Hill. A player controls the listed objective by being the last side to have a brigade pass through the objective at the end of the scenario.
  3. The Union player receives 10 points for each objective he controls by the 1800 turn.
  4. The Confederate player receives 5points for each objective he controls by the 1800 turn.
  5. Decisive victory: Accumulate at least twice as many points as the other side.
  6. Tactical victory: Accumulate at least 1.5 times as many points as the other side.
  7. Draw: Neither side accumulates at least 1.5 times as many points as the other side.
