Wargames Rules of the American Civil War

(Turnbridge Wargames Society)

Review by Paul R. Price

These rules use a ground scale of one millimeter = one yard. No time or figure scales are given, nor are any recommendations for figure mounting.

Wargames Rules of the American Civil War is a rules set which can best be described as "English club" rules. It appears to date from the early to mid 1970s, as it contains features like artillery burst patterns and an artillery burst "spider." Such features are seldom found in modern ACW rules in the United States. These rules leave many gaps which must be filled in by the players. Such items as figure scale and mounting are not addressed by the rules, and so must be addressed by the players. Therefore, I would recommend these rules to gamers who enjoy using burst patterns and "spiders," or to gamers looking for something different.
