Figure Review by Paul R. Price
We received figures to review from Fortress Figures. These 15mm ACW figures, designed by Robert King, were a mixed bag of poses and quality. These figures won't appeal to gamers and collectors who want extreme detail at low prices. However, if you want average or below average quality at low prices, you should consider these figures. How low are the prices? A bag of mixed poses sells for $15.00 for one hundred figures. Alternatively, packs of twenty identical figures are $5.00. Additionally, packs containing three guns and seven artillerists cost $5.00. The figures which we received covered all available poses. A typical figure stands 16mm high from the top of the figure's base to the top of the figure's head; they are generally average to thin in weight. They are roughly equivalent to Stone Mountain or Yucca, but not Essex. Some figures are reasonably detailed (such as the figures in overcoats) but some are not. Generally, the advancing poses are the best of this line, followed by the standing firing poses, the marching poses, and finally the kneeling firing poses. The artillery pieces (Parrotts and Napoleons are available) sent for review were 10 pound Parrotts, and were quite well done, particularly at this price. The artillerists were of uneven quality. The officer and artillerists with ramrods were among the best figures in this line, but the other artillerists may be the worst. Overall, these figures have quality comparable to their price. Thus, they are a reasonable purchase, if you know what you are getting. The following packs comprise the line:
