Fire & Fury Update

by Steven James

We freezing southerners had a few questions that needed clarifying, so with that thought in mind, I put pen to paper. This was my second letter to the staff of Fire & Fury; my previous letter from a year before was still unanswered. You can say I was somewhat surprised when I received an answer from the staff and was also asked to be an official playtester. The Lord works in mysterious ways.

The questions asked were:

Q: Can a unit pass through other units on a road?

A: Units on roads cannot pass through one another. This includes all units - cavalry, artillery, and infantry.

Q: Does a unit that remains stationary, but wishes to refuse its flank, have to roll on the Manoeuvre Table?

A: Yes, it must; this is a manoeuvre. Any movement is a maneuver.

Q: Can a charging unit wheel, then move obliquely as it charges?

A: No!!!!! A unit can wheel OR oblique in a single manocuvre phase. It cannot do both (this also applies whether a unit is charging or not charging.)

Q: The 5/4/3 rating for veteran units is the same rating for green units. Is this correct?

A: Yes. Percentages merge to the same number in small units. However 5/4/2 is okay for veteran units likely to appear in the second edition of F&F, unless their changes are superceded.

Q: What happens when an unattached commander's stand is charged?

A: The stand moves away at the discretion of the owning player.

Q: Concerning the attachment of artillery units to a brigade, is the placement of battery A illegal?

A: Yes! There must be a one inch gap between batteries. Try to do this instead. In fact, this is the only way to do it.

Q: Are batteries C, D, and E placed in illegal positions?

A: Yes. For these batteries to be attached, they must touch the infantry stands as shown below.

Q: In the future, can you label the units in scenarios as to whether they are crack, veteran, or green?

A: Good idea. But rule changes may encompass more than that.
