Since the last issue, several things have happened around here. Number one, as you can see by this editorial, I have broken down and bought a laser printer. This is kind of strange, considering I'm still using my old 286 Packard Bell computer with it, but the quality and price were too much to pass up. Secondly, the situation in regards to ancient/medieval wargaming is in a state of adjustment right now. NASAMW has had some severe losses in membership and I've noticed a ten percent drop in SAGA resubscriptions as well. Luckily for me, I have managed to pick up several new subscribers to make up for most of the attrition, but it is troublesome. Finally, the Society of Ancients committee has elected to no longer allow the swapping of articles with SAGA. This is a definite loss to me, as I came to depend on reprinting some articles to fill up an issue which was running short on available essays. The logic behind their move is tangible enough...why bother subscribing to both journals when each one had excerpts of good articles from the other? Unfortunately, the loss of SoA articles will have to be made up by my loyal SAGA readers (a not so subtle hint, eh?). I had been doing a bit of ARMATI gaming with Dave Ottney and Dave Sweet before the Christmas season, and am looking forward to becoming a bit more involved again. Bruce Taylor and I are still getting together to play WRG 7th and I'm anticipating a game in the next week or with 25mm figures over at Greg Hauserts. Yes, there are those of us who still do play 7th. In fact, the Hamilton, Ontario group are putting on a 7th tournament in April. I would love to get to it, but I am afraid that there are too many other commitments in need of addressing...but, you never know. I have been asked to be a guest on the NET program Modern War, which is taped in Washington, D.C. It's intriguing that the hosts of the show are interested in discussing Neglected Heroes in respect to the present-day world situation where many small, third-world nations are being led by charismatic, yet technically unsophisticated leaders. This will be my first TV interview since 1971, when I was a teacher discussing racial imbalance in the public schools. Quite a sojourn in 25 years. Needless to say, we are attempting to come up with an agreeable date, probably either in late May or late August. In any event, I will keep you informed. Well, the feedback from the DBM/WRG 7th/Armati article has been pretty good. Most of you apparently take umbrage with my position...and you're wrong! There...the power of publishing my own journal has finally proved it's value! Seriously, though, to each his own. I just hope that with the predicted demise of 7th, there will be something as good, from a personal enjoyment point of view, for those who do feel as I do, to play. Anyway, thanks for your letters. It's nice to see people defending their thoughts and viewpoints, even when they're the opposite of my own. Until next time. . . Back to Saga #53 Table of Contents
