Figure Review
"BORDER LEVY, 1595"
This white metal kit is an interesting addition to the excellent range produced by this company, and complements the mounted figure of an Anglo-Scottish Border Reiver, by the same designer, released last year. Though intended as a Government-raised soldier, this figure would equally well represent a reiver on foot, or indeed any similar figure of the period. The kit comprises six pieces, which fit together well after a minimum of cleaning up. The figure wears a back and breast over ordinary dress. Particularly nice touches are the battered Pot and the excellently reproduced sheepskin blanket roll. The figure, armed with short-poled bill and dagger, is posed at the ready. Animation and detail are of high quality. Painting instructions are included: for best effects, thought should be givcn to the muted range of dyes normally used. An unusual and well produced figure that is either worth adding to any collection or indeed starting one off with. Illustration Foot and Mounted Reiver - The impression is given of a "crease" running down the centre of the foot figure. Whilst the cabaset and breast plate would have had such a production detail, perhaps the breeches are a bit too well pressed and are mirrored in rather sharp shins! These feature are less evident in the model as the angle of the camera in this photo exaggerates the features.
