The West Point Museum kept a rather impressive collection of figures on display through 1988, when the museum relocated and had to put the figures into storage. The figures themselves are Lucottes, but are recasts from a private mold. During the 1960s, they were repainted in flat enamels, and many had their arms replaced with modern castings to present a more "accurate" appearance. Unfortunately, this process destroyed the historical integrity of the figures. The display was still quite impressive, and the museum hopes to eventually showcase at least part of the collection alongside the many weapons, uniforms, and works of art still displayed there.
A very rare photo of the West Point display. Special thanks to Michael J. McAfee, Curator of History, for his information and the photo. Back to Table of Contents -- Napoleon #1 Copyright 1995 by Emperor's Press. |
