Samurai Rules

BROOKHURST HOBBIES, 12188 Brookhurst St., Garden Grove, CA 92640 sent a copy of THE ROAD TO OSAKA Samurai rules by T.J. Hallam, M.N. Jones, and N. Walker and published by TWO DRAGONS PRODUCTIONS ($19.98). This is a 32-page professionally done effort done in heavy card stock and it is designed for skirmish level actions and for 15mm/25mm figures. Each "bound" has five phases (intent, missiles, movement, close quarter combat, and morale); the rules were written for 15mm though the authors state it can be used for 25mm by changing the distances (in cm's) to inches. One figure equals one actual person and the authors suggest each side have 30-50 figures to represent the small scale action wargame. They also state a new version is being worked on which concentrates on large scale battles. Figures are provided with a "combat effectiveness" grade number (1-5) as well as "weapon" and "personal" skill ratings. A figure with the higher grade number always has the "initiative" in combat. Facing and wheeling devices are provided. Examples are provided for the various rules as well as an example of a "command structure" for the game. A separate plastic coated "quick play" sheet is included. A nicely presented rules set!
