25mmm Wild West Figures

from Dixon's Miniatures

by David Barnes

I have some Western Gunfighters already and these Wild West additions are very interesting. Shoot-outs at the OK Corral will be more complicated with these characters around, indeed one or two of the "ladies" might be the cause of some gunplay? I will list all the figures, comment on them, and finally draw a few.

Townspeople

WG19. Seated "Doctor" half specs and bag. WG is a good label for a Doctor (cf. W.G. Grace) A very "alive" character with his Gladstone bag on his lap.

WG20. Seated lady. She has a purse in her lap and no-hat on - unusual for any lady outside in those days.

WG21. Sealed cowboy, lounging with hat over face. Very characterful - Chris from "The Magnificent Seven" (Yul Brunner) lying doggo but about to make his play.

WG22. Stage coach porter bending lifting suitcase. Oooh me back!

WG23. Stage coach porter handing up hatbox. Could be bullion box if you wanl it to be; depends how you paint it up. A well modelled pose.

WG24. Young lady standing hand on hip, folded parasol "Forage cap" style hat with feathers.

WG25. Town gent standing top hat in outstretched left hand. He can be handing a lady into a coach or horse. Could be selling "The Elixir of Life" and Horse Doctor's Panacea, or making a speech!

WG26. Lady stepping up, as in into a stagecoach. Excellent modelling. All these figures can people your town or - if you have the money, be around the Wells Fargo stagecoach Dixon's produce.

WG27. Lady standing looking stern! In a tip tilted boater.

WG28. Hurty Gusty or Saloon girl - Raising glass and frock. To show garter. I'm sure she has "a heart of gold".

WG29. Saloon Gal, putting down glass. Waving tray in right hand - maybe to whack any cowhand who get "fresh?"

WG30. Not sent.

WC31. Boy walking - hands in pockets. Could be Tom Sawyer or Huck Finn. Excellent in pose and modelling.

WG32. Girl walking with basket. Plaits, and with a covered rush basket. In proper proportion.

WG33. Not sent.

WG34. China man running. Pigtail/shaven head. Bundle under his arm (washing?) - or secret plans.

WG37. Lady in sunbonnet ramming musket. "Here yar Jack. Let them ornery critters have it!" etc.

WG38. Lady with sunbonnet thrown back swinging musket over her left shoulder, advancing. "Geddaff our claim yuh varmints"

WG39. Lady with musket at her hip with hair in a bun, Little Annie Oakley?

WG40. Lady kneeling loading musket - filling pan with powder horn. She wears a married lady's indoor bonnet.

WG41. Young man in curly brimmed range hat creeping forward, looking left with musket held at the point of balance. Excellent pose.

Vignettes

WGV1a. Photographer with camera. On a tripod with hood a wooden glass plate camera with brass fittings. The Photographer could also be covering the ACW.

WCV1b. Dead body complete with coffin. Very macabre. From about 1870, dead 'Enemies Of the Public' were often displayed thus. No lottery or TV in those days.
