From the Editors

From Kenn: Our E-Mail address, via Bob Walker [100534.71@compuserv.com] is a contact point for any SWA enquiries. Thanks for this Bob and for publicising the Solo Wargamers' Association on The Net.

Negotiations are at an early stage to put Lone Warrior on The Net and more details will be publicised when things have been confirmed. This is a no cost exercise for the Solo Wargamers Association and should boost our membership. The main point that comes to mind at present is that of the royalties the Solo Wargamers Association will receive from this method of advertising Lone Warrior and letting a world-wide audience know of our existence. All royalties received will be credited to the Solo Wargamers Association and accounted for accordingly with no money being paid to individual authors of items in Lone Warrior. Please bear this in mind when submitting articles for publication and I hope it does not put any of you off. We sure have come a long way in 20 years.

All articles are accepted for publication in good faith and contributors must ensure that no copyright is enfringed, which is why only in exceptional circumstances and with the written permission of the author are articles from other sources printed in Lone Warrior.

Editors throughout the years: John Bennett, Bill Farley, Chris Constable and Kenn Hart. Contributors through the years: the Members.

From Rich: Twenty Years of Lone Warrior! Since our last issue of the NA edition, we have moved forward on several fronts. Two North American members have offered to run play by mail games (see Chris Morris's PBM check). Several members have stepped forward to run a North American branch of the SWA library (see Ken Van Pelt's letter in the forum). Resubscription rates remain very good. Also, look for wargame materials available in 'Ye Olde Shoppe,' a column that will appear from time to time.

It looks like we may soon be putting Lone Warrior on the WWW (see Kenn's previous comments). Russ Lockwood (longtime contributer to MWAN) is negotiating with scores of history and gaming journals to test interest in a site for subscribers to access current and back issues. Subscription to Russ's service will not grant SWA membership or SWA services, merely electronic access to Lone Warrior. More 'hits' on LW means a larger share of the royalty pool. Our hope is that this will generate more members who want Lone Warrior in hard copy and access to SWA services.

Do you want scholarly, in-depth articles on aspects of military history? I've just read HMGS Military and Naval History Forum Proceedings, one of 2 joumals put out annually by the folks at HMGS East. It is super! The 100 pages of material challeges conventional wisdom and explores areas you won't find elsewhere. Proceedings no. 3 treated subjects such as: commerce raiding in WW 1, the 1814 campaign in France, the American Revolution in the South, WW II in the Pacific, viking strategy (?) and more. Most enjoyable reading. Send $7 to: HMGS East; P.O. Box 222; Annapolis MD 21401. You won't be disappointed.

Colonial gamers, if you don't get The Heliograph, you need to. This isn't my period but the articles are fascinating and full of 'good ideas.' I read my issue cover-to-cover. See the ad elsewhere; this is a bargain.

Boardgamers, if you have not seen the new look of The Strategist, the monthly newsletter of the Strategic Gaming Society, you are missing something. Like The Heliograph, this one is crammed with neat stuff. Try it. See the SGS ad elsewhere.
