New Format

The response to the new format has been overwhelming, I thanl; you all and to several of you who made suggestions that I have incorporated here a special thanks: Ron Lizorty, Chris Nelson and Greg Sigsworth. As you can see I'm still experimenting with fonts. So, until I get the feel I want please be patient.

I screwed up last issue and lost the last line at the bottom of page 5, the line should read:

of scenario ideas. Finally, a letter from Illinoian Bill Krieg about the

I have not heard the final word yet, but it seems Preziosi has given over control of Savage and Soldier to Joe Boeke.

The Heliograph still needs someone or group to review Pony Soldiers by Glen Allison.

I just finished reading Scipio Africanus, Greater than Napoleon by B.H Liddell Hart. The book is a great read and full of interesting history and military analysis. Reading about Scipio's tactics and strategy was quite revealing and inspiring. Makes you want to try it on your own battlefield with Madhists vs Brits.

Product News

I finished painting Wargames Foundry Irregular Sikh infantry, half with white base and half with khaki base coats. I'm not sure that the khaki undercoat works real well. It gives an interesting look to lightly applied dark overcoats, which gives an appearance of sunfading without a dry brushing of white. It doesn' t look bad, and works alright for horses. Comments?

According to Bob Giglio, Frank Chadwick and Emperor's Headquarters are going to reprint GDW's Soldiers Companion in the near future with new optional rules and updates by Bob Giglio and Kieth Frye. If you haven't used thesc rules they are well written, easy to use, provides lots of army lists, Zulu and other info for the period. The rules are better than TSATF. Bob has written two articles concerning Soldiers Companion for us (actually for Battlefields). One a scenario he used at Cold Wars with lots of success, and some optional rules and clarification.

This issue is in a smaller font to get it all in under the two ounce weight limit. I may stick to a smaller typeface to get everything in anyway, comments?

This morning I received the On Military Matters catalog, 609-466-2329. No room to list the variety of colonial material not just Sudan and South Africa. The best bet I saw was Callwell's Small Wars for $25. Lots of wargarning titles, excuse me while I go call Dennis Shorthouse for some books.
