Chris Nelson: Has Wargames Illustrated disappeared? I haven't seen a new issue out since the January '97 issue. I've heard from a friend that the Emperor's HQ got out of the magazine business due to lots of problems. I don't know if it's true or not but I have visited the store here that carries Miniature Wargames and Wargames Illustrated and he hasn't received any new issues (of WI) since the Jan. '97, but has got the Feb. and Mar. issues of MW. I wonder what the story is? Is there no longer a US distributor or did WI fold. There is an article in the April 97 issue of the USNI (Naval Institute) Proceedings which might be of interest, it's "The Navy That Almost Was" by Lt. Michael Forsythe, USN. It's about the attempt by China to build a modern navy in the last two decades of the 19th century. (Good question, I have no idea whether WI folded or not, I do have a copy of WIs Feb issue from Cold Wars. The US distributor was/is the Emperor's HQ, if they have stopped distributing mags than it is the reason for not seeing them anywhere. There were so many places I spent money that I cannot remember where I got my copy of the Feb issue.) Hal Thinglum: My colonial projects have been put on hold with the development of a sudden interest of my 25mm SYW Project again. This was reinitiated by the advent of the Guernsey Foundry SYW line, which is really nice. However, I ordered metal stands from Jeff Lista of Wargames Accessories with plans to base my Sikh War, NWF, and Afghan War figures; 25mm from Wargames Foundry. The NWF is finished and the Sikh War and Afghan War are well on the way to being done. I've asked Howard Whitehouse to make some more NWF type terrain for the sides and corners of my wargames table and am anxious to see them. All three of the a above mentioned periods are well covered by Wargames Foundry and I'm anxious to see them on the table; especially the Sikh War. So many great figures and units! (Well, if what Howard had at Siege of Augusta for corners pieces is any indication, Hal is going to love the scenery.) I have received half a dozen letters from individuals complaining about Savage and Soldier not being mailed when promised. I do not know what the deal is, Joe has not replied to my queries. I do know that several of you, and if I got letters then there are more of you thinking this, that unless Joe does something soon--refund or start publishing--they are, separately, going to the post master inspector general with a complaint of fraud. Joe, I know you get this. PLEASE DO SOMETHING. Keith Frye: sent along information on Cossack units from the Crimean War.
