For instance, a few days before the Battle of Iena, some 50 horsemen under Captain Piri and 100 others under Chef d'Escadron (squadron leader) Mida went as far as Leipzig, which was some 60 miles away from the army. They entered Leipzig, which was occupied by the Prussians (2 battalions of infantry and 1 regiment of cavalry). These cavalrymen had covered 80 kilometers (50 miles) during October 12, spent the night on their horses in Leipzig, and returned the next day to Weissenfels, more than 60 kilometers (38 miles) to the rear, without unbridling.
