HMGS Scholarship I am glad to be able to report that HMGS East has instituted its scholarship program by awarding the first recipient, Matthew Wolny of Brick, NJ, $1,500 for each of four years. Matt has been an HMGS member since 1990 and had a cumulative grade in high school of 97.5. His interest in history put him into several advanced placement classes in historical studies in high school. Matt will be attending Susquehana University in Penn. Congratulations, Matt. The Net In this issue you will find The Courier's version of the Computer Net--a discussion group about the hobby. I hope that many of you will participate. The first topic is terrainrules to simulate the small undulations of ground that can be so important and yet are difficult to demonstrate on the tabletop. The Courier has joined the real computer net as well. We have joined with many other fine gaming magazines in a Colaition Web. Look for us at www.magweb.com. Survey In Volley Fire is a survey designed to ascertain your wargame spending patterns. It helps us with advertisers and I hope you will help by taking a few minutes to answer them. Remember to put your name and address so as to participate in thedrawing for the free copy of this issue's book selection. Wally Sim Dangerously Ill I have the sad news that Wally is in the hospital ICU fighting cancer. Wally was half the team that instigated the meeting that resulted in forming HMGS. Many of you have heard of the "meeting in Wally's basement" where it all started. Wally also publishes the often irreverant Potomac Wargamers club newsletter: PW Review. Wally is a fighter, I know, and I am sure he will beat this thing with the prayers and well wishes of his hobby friends. God be with you, Wally.
