The Siege of Augusta was held on the weekend of 5-7 January 1996. HMGS Midsouth sponsors the Siege of Augusta to promote the hobby in the region. More than 200 people attended the event and many more saw it reported on the evening news or read about it in the paper. Even so the organizers were getting phone calls the week after the event and some of the organizing club members were asking at the following meeting if the event was going to take place this year! (some people never get the word). Notable events included a NASAMW tournament with 20 participants, twelve in 25mm and eight in 15mm, Snge also hostecl the Annual CSRA High School Armati Toumament with 26 players from six high schools. There were fourteen vendors including Buffalo Books, Viking Forge, Silver Eagle, Raventhorpe Miniatures, Emperor's Outpost, Modelers Mart, Dayton Painting Consor tium Outland Games. C P Wargames, and others. There was also a lively flea market. A number of visitors from well out of the area including one hardy soul from near Buffalo N.Y. attended others came from the midwest. The Siege awarded $225.00 in prizes and the vendors led by Buffalo Books donated $300.00. There were 52 gaming events from ancients to the future. Butler High School sponsored The Battle of Sharpsburg, Howard Whitehouse put on a wild Wild West skirmish game, the Augusta group put on Fort Fisher and Dresden. Dave Bonk and Chris Hughes won best of show for their terrain. The local media provided very favorable coverage. This is a growing event which is becoming the show piece for Midsouth and continued growth is expected for Siege of Augusta V in 1997.
