These shield transfers come both in 15mm and 25mm and include Hellenistic, Imperial Roman, Barbarian, and Late Roman designs. Samples received were the 15mm transfers. The Hellenistic transfers are sold in sheets of 24 and consist of 15 different designs including traditional Greek shield symbols as well as Macedonian and Seleucid pattems. They are available in black, red, green, blue, yellow, or purple. The Imperial Roman transfers consist of five sheets which include 12 two-piece transfers that fit respectively on the back and the front of the shield leaving the boss in the center free. This is a good design available in white, red, or yellow. The Barbarian designs come in red, white, green, blue, or yellow and consist of three sheets, again in pairs of 12 for straight-sided, oval or fat oval shields. Each individual sheet consists of several design patterns. The Late Roman patterns presently consist of 11 different styles with 20 per sheet in a variety of colors. Some are designed for specific units, and others have traditional eagle, Chi Ro designs and similar standard shield pattems. The designs for the Late Romans also have a hole in the center of the transfer to fit over the shield boss. These transfers will really dress up a unit and eliminate the need for painting intricate shield designs. They are easy to apply and the design shapes, as indicated, help to avoid unsightly wrinkles as I have experienced with older brands of ancient shield transfers. These are available from Pharaohs Arms, P O Box 579, Merrickville, Ontario, Canada KOG1NO. The price is $1.90 per sheet of 15mm and $3.50 for 25mm. - JOHN BOEHM Back to Table of Contents -- Courier #68 Copyright 1995 by The Courier Publishing Company. |
