Le Petit Empereur a Chipco Game by Chip Harrison seeks to be for Napoleonics what DBA was for ancients. The Armies are no bigger than 125 figures, it seems easy to learn and introduces a couple of new ideas. The system uses 40mm bases and varies the figures on the bases to show the troop type and quality. The mechanics are simple: two or more bases (units) make a corps and that is the basic maneuver unit for both sides. The maneuver by corps is a new concept for many Napoleonic gamers but seems to work and the rules include some cut out "units" to allow you to play the system a few times before you re-base. There is a new feature - a "morale clock" that is adjusted down by the losing player each turn until disaster overtakes the army. The system is very workable. Le Petit Empereur comes with the eight pages of rules on card stock, three "arrnies" in card stock counters, four pages of tables printed on card stock for $8.75 from Chipco, 616 Spar Dr. Redwood City, Ca. 94065 or faxi'voice 415-595-5886 or E-mail Chameleo@ix.netcom.com. These rules are worth a look and may serve to interest new people to the era. - JIM BIRDSEYE Back to Table of Contents -- Courier #68 Copyright 1995 by The Courier Publishing Company. |
