THE SOAPBOX By Bill Brierton Well it looks like we have a new editor for CHAINMAIL. Does this solve the problems that the club is having? Probably not. While the newszine may get out on time, it does not solve all the problems. The DU club is still suffering a severe decrease in membership. It does not solve the apathy most members have towards the club. It does not solve the inability of the club to do more for its members. And these are the problems I can think of off the top of my head. I really don't know what I can do. I'm only one person. I like the suggestions that some members have made to me, but I can't do everything. That's why when you come up with an idea and I say "Go for it" I expect you as a DU club member to act on it. For the most part the membership lets me down. Nothing gets done and its left in my lap. I don't get paid to be the club president. I barely get reimbursed for sending out mail, copying of flyers, etc.... I'm not complaining about not getting reimbursed. I am complaining about people saying I'm not doing anything. Hey this is your club, you can replace me if anybody wants to run against me. I'm not afraid of losing. It would be a load off my back if somebody else was in charge. How about it folks? Or am I just wasting my time and energy?? EDITORS NOTE: Though times look tough I would like to add the club isn't doing that bad. Subscriptions are down. Membership participation is low. Club administration at this time consist of Bill and myself. But.... The club treasury ia at a good sized positive balance - Positive enough to cover our subscription obligations. I have a good amount of experience in the gaming industry to offer direction to the club. I also think that elections to fill the empty spots are needed. The club is 7ish(?) years old. The hard times have passed. I'm looking forward to the future. --JW Back to Chainmail Issue #41 Table of Contents © Copyright 1996 by Dragonslayers Unlimited This article appears in MagWeb (Magazine Web) on the Internet World Wide Web. |
