4eme Regiment D'Artillerie a Pied

This is a new unit of the Napoleonic Association, which is actively seeking recruits. The unit is based upon Napoleon's old Foot Artillery Regiment of 1799, and is a top class unit with experienced members, based in the Midlands, working to a military structure and a high level of authenticity while enjoying battle re-enactment and living history to the full within the Association.

The 4eme Regiment was formally known as the Regiment of Grenoble and has the honour of having the young Napoleon Bonaparte as one of its Lieutenants during 1791. As a captain of the second battalion of the 4eme, Napoleon took his regiment to take part in the seige of Toulon. The regiment then fought throughout the Italian campaign and in 1799 accompanied their old commander to Egypt.

Their history reads like a history of the Napoleonic period itself. From 1801-1804 they took part in the expedition to San Domingo; fron 1805-08 they were part of the Army of Italy. Units of the regiment fought in Spain and Portugal, at Wagram, and in the invasion of Russia. The year 1813 saw them take part in the action at Lutzen, Bautzen, Leipzig and Hanau. In 1815 the regiment was part of the Army of the Alps.
